  •  I made the switch a few years ago (8+ / 0-)

to LED Christmas lights. They're more expensive initially, but they last, and I don't have to fiddle with loose or burned out bulbs anymore. I just put them up, plug them in, and voila! They all work, year after year. And the bulbs don't get hot, either. That's a great feature for us, since we put our tree up the day after Thanksgiving and don't take it down until the day after New Years. The tree tends to be pretty dried out by then.

    •  I can't agree more! LED are the best things ever (6+ / 0-)

for anyone who is serious about Christmas lights.  All the things elmo says are true: they don't burn out after you've put them up, they use less energy and they don't dry out your tree.

My big find last year was I finally found some random twinkle LED lights for my indoor tree.  Not flashing--random twinkle ones!  Christmas bliss!

My best purchase for outdoor decorations, however, were the kind of timers that have a light sensor in them.  The lights come on automatically when it gets dark enough and I can set them to go off after 2, 4, 6 or 8 hours after that.  On Christmas Eve we go out and reset them so they stay on all night...to help Santa, of course!

      •  I hate my LEDs (0+ / 0-)

They are way too bright and way too white.  (There are probably better types, but not for $5.99 at CVS.) I hate them, but I turned in the old set when I bought them. So probably I won't have lights this year.

    •  Sadly, mine are brand new LED lights. WAH! (1+ / 0-)

Can you take them back for replacement?
