    but not for the homes.  And they DO make the owners plant thirsty grass.  

    Florida law changed a couple of years ago and HOAs can no longer deny owners a request to change out their lawns to either Florida native grasses or ground covers, but the cost of doing it is very prohibitive.  A few of them have started ripping out the St. Augustine and Bermuda grass and putting in more water usage friendly lawns.  

    You have to apply for approval from the HOA first and submit drawings and crap, but at least they are not stopping them from changing out the lawns if they want to.  Would love to put in something that requires less mowing, a lot less water and a lot less fertilizer crap.  

    My mom only waters for 1 hour a week, early on Sunday morning.  Her grass is not as green as the neighbors' but nobody from the HOA has given her a ticket yet.  With winter coming and some freezes already, everybody's lawn is browning up, so she won't be running the sprinklers at all until spring.
