  •  Great diary (16+ / 0-)

Isn't the new President Obama delightful, in not playing into the REpubs games anymore? You want some entitlement cuts, repugs, say what they are, okay? I was hoping President Obama's second term would start taking on these tougher contours.

In addition to the excellent content, your diaries are always visually appealing and obvious you spend a lot of time crafting them.

As an aside if you don't mind a technical question (because I can't find the answer in the wonderful FAQ section ;-)) how do you wrap text around pictures and format the placement of them? Is it through the use of tables or something else? Tx.

I'll only truly have delight with President Obama's 2nd term if he gets rid of Arne Duncan, stops pushing education deform, and continues to act like the progressive we all enjoy seeing!

    •  Thanks for you kind comments eXtina. Yes, I spend (4+ / 0-)

way too much time on graphics and layout.

And, I love sharing technical knowledge about formating as virtually everything I've learned has been from the School of Hard knocks.

This post has been a disaster in terms of the time I put into it.  Yesterday, I did five posts, four of which got recommended which I really enjoy, even crave and covet, way more than a mature adult my age, and past accomplishment should.  But, they only took 1 to 2 hours each.

This one I thought would be a really quick start of the day, by combining two from yesterday with a new article, but then I spent hours moving blocks of text back and forth, writing new stuff on adapted bases that got way to long an complicated only to trim them down - through several cycles. And, these embedded videos are an awkward size, but I had to punt just to get it over with.

I joked late last night that I was about to join a 12-Step program for addicted bloggers.

Anyhow the secret to wrap around comes from adding align="XXXX" and width="300"to your image source line for a normal photo,  where XXXX is replaced by right or left depending on which side of the page you want it to be on.  Do you know the normal photo format?  I can give you a more specific example if you need.

If its going to be on the right sometimes I've had to take out the border="0" specification, but this might be superstitious learning.

If you leave in extra spaces between the specifications the later ones will not activate so I may have started deleting the border=0 in random attempts to solve that problem without realizing it, but haven't had time to experiment.

A width of 300 is about half the column space.  I reduced Nancy Pelosi's pix in this post down to about 200 or 180 to make the post look smaller as posts this long will reduce readership by at least 50% compared to something that fits on one page, which will be half of what you get if its half a page.

One thing I haven't figured out yet, but am going to study the front-pagers source code, is getting any caption to stay with the photo block.  In the way I describe here any photo captions will detach and appear off to the side in undesirable random places.  I suspect additional specifiers need to be inside the caption brackets.

Do you or anyone know how to embed these new  i frame  format videos?  Just as I finally figured out the old object way of doing it there are two knew formats causing me trouble.  Especially the AOL ones.

I think the big media conglomerates are trying to make it more difficult for folks like you and me to easily copy them out, unless you go through Facebooks, or twitter or one of their subsidiary units.

If this is the explanation  I just have to set up Facebook, Google, or Twitter sharing, but haven't done so because all those places only allow one account which I intend to set up for my real ID.  HoundDog was just one character of six I had before I know multiple account here was a banning offense.

After I learned I let the others go fallow, even though on some of the others I was more popular, and had more posts, but were different species and genders that I would be harder to explain.  But HoundDog was never really me, but a prototype character, for CyberDawg, that was inspired by Tom Tomorrow's Penguin and band of characters in Modern World.  in an internet novel so if you go back seven or so year ago, the history gets strange and might be embarrassing now if I said HoundDog was my moniker, as it has become in these later years.

I've been planing on abandoning HoundDog and coming back as myself but, a new stranger, after the election, but have sort of got addicted to having 23,000 recs, even more comments etc.

      Oh, woe is me......

I am pretty green at a lot of this. I don't even know how to format a picture. All I do is copy the code from photobucket and insert and all I have figured out how to do is center it.
Once I was adding a caption onto a picture from the Edit function of photobucket and it allowed you to add a caption, that didn't move. That was before I discovered the meme generator.

I know we now have the image uploader thing but I still have yet to figure that out, and still use photobucket.

I refuse to log in through those other sites especially facebook so I hope that's not the reason for the iframe embed problem. Especially facebook, I won't do it. I have been having this problem lately as well and too often put 'link to video because it won't embed'.  Some places offer a choice of object or iframe. The most user friendly videos are on NBC and MSNBC they even have a built-in clipping function to shorten your clip if you want. They get it - the more people embed their clips and they get passed around the internet the more visibility they get. The program and guest is always mentioned.

I wonder if you could ask the management to change your user ID to your real name preserving your history. Others who are not fp'ers or featured writers seem to have done that (eg Scottie Thomaston, Jill Richardson).

I would hate to give up my history and reputation to start over too.

align="right" and width="300" things into the photobucket HTML code?  I use photobucket too and didn't realize we have an image uploader.

The problem is I don't want my real name associated with all my wild writings here as I have been beyond extreme liberalism especially in the old days.

Also, I've bee  impolite to some of the Republicans and leaders of some oppressive governments which could turn out to be awkward.

If I were even nominated for Supreme Court or something how would I explain it all?

If I manage to restart my companies many of my past clients are among the world top multinational companies including many of the oil companies.

So I have to start over as a Mr. Reasonable moderate non-partisan which is going to be extra hard to get recs.

always just copied and pasted it. I guess I should look into that ;-)
I use photobucket too and didn't realize we have an image uploader.
Here is kos' diary announcing the image library and uploader.

He says it's for subscribers so you should be able to get it. I'm not so maybe that's why I haven't figured it out ;-) but I do recall it was going to be made available for everyone though I could be imagining that.

            Yes this is a problem

If I were even nominated for Supreme Court or something how would I explain it all?
and if you got nominated I wouldn't even know it!

Clyburn. I've replaced the outside most open and close brackets, equal sign and colons  with TEXT so you can see the embed code unprocessed.

OPEN BRACKET a hrefEQUAL"httpCOLON/s345.beta.photobucket.com/user/hounddog1111/media/200px-James_Clyburn_official_Congressional_Majority_Whip_photo.jpg.html" target="_blank" CLOSE BRACKET OPEN BRACKET img srcEQUAL"httpCOLONi345.photobucket.com/albums/p372/hounddog1111/200px-James_Clyburn_official_Congressional_Majority_Whip_photo.jpg" align="right" width="240" alt="Photobucket" ClOSE BRACKET OPEN BRACKET /a CLOSE BRACKET

So you see I inserted align="right" width="240" just before alt="Photobucket" and took out the border="0" from the HTML embed code that comes from Photbucket.

If this isn't clear another trick you may already know is place the cursor somewhere in this comment field and right click and chose "source code."  Then use the Find tool on OPEN BRACKET and you will see the complete source code for the photo below which words will automatically wrap around.
