I was a bit reluctant at first, because the premise seemed almost absurd to me. Of course a pure meritocracy is the best method to allocate jobs and power. Eventually though, I'd heard so many good things about it, I decided I should give it a read. And boy, everyone was right. He makes an incredibly compelling case against the current meritocratic system in the United States, and its consistent failures. In the process, he's able to articulate what myself, and I imagine a lot of other people, have been feeling as we watch the failures of virtually all of our institutions and authority structures. I highly recommend it.

I love Chris Hayes' writing, and I love "Up" To me, the sign of an excellent news show is that I feel like I've learned something or become smarter for having watched. Chris Hayes never disappoints in this regard as opposed to say, Schultz or Sharpton. I mostly agree with those guys, but they're partisan shills, mostly trotting out the company line and talking points. "Up" is a very different kind of show.
