    •  Right. It can't be class warfare because the (10+ / 0-)

one percent don't know what class is. Perhaps the optically challenged confuse class with the glass in which they see themselves without recognition.
The thing about Narcissus isn't that he fell in love with his own image; it's that he didn't recognize himself.
That's been a long standing human problem. Socrates addressed it when he instructed "know thyself." If it were a universal attribute there would be no need to mention it. Jesus of Nazareth went a step further in telling us what to do about such people. He said, "forgive them, for they know not what they do."
Does that mean people lacking in awareness are stupid? In a sense. They have been stupefied by some process or event. Being clueless and dense is obviously not the default condition. The majority are self-aware and, by extension, aware of their environment. Only a small percentage are dense, reduced to on/off responses to prompts without any sense of what they are about. They exist as if in a fog.

Stupid is not unintelligent. Stupid is an attribute associated with perception and interpretation. Intellect is mainly focused on absorbing information and putting it back out, largely unprocessed and undigested. Very intelligent people "know" lots of stuff, but many can't boil water.

the above is an hypothesis, not a dictum
