  •  I'm saying they don't need all of them left on (8+ / 0-)

every night for security.  If they are leaving them all on every night, it is a complete waste of energy.  They should have one or two fixtures that have a side floodlight on it that would cover security, or, barring that, have the circuitry where they could have all but one or two fixtures go off on a timer, like 9-10pm.

Most of those lights are either 400 or 1000 watt EACH.  They are putting something like 10 times the energy needed for security by lighting the whole lot to 100 footcandles.

The reason they have all that light is not security, it is sales, and obviously, someone doesn't understand what they are wasting by leaving them on.

Or they think it's worth it on the chance someone will drive by at 2am and see a car they want to come back and buy.  I've actually heard that argument in the lighting industry.

    •  What About 'Rotating' the Spotlight (0+ / 0-)

...on a night by night basis? For example, the used '59 Bel Air might get highlighted on the last Tuesday of the month, and the 'late model' Fleetwood 75 would get highlighted on the last Wednesday, etc.

Strange that a harp of thousand strings should keep in tune so long
