  •  Nuclear energy has saved thousands of lives (5+ / 0-)

It has prevented thousands of slow, painful deaths that would have been caused by air pollution. I am strongly opposed to the poor management of nuclear power, but compared to it's primary competitor, coal, nuclear is clearly much cleaner and safer.

look for my eSci diary series Thursday evening.

    •  Then why don't we attack the management? (0+ / 0-)

Nuclear power isn't demonized at the management level like we do other problems, such as healthcare.  Imagine if all our efforts to address healthcare problems were spent demonizing doctors and medical technology?

We need to invest in new nuclear technology, make dramatic improvements.  And then deal with the mis-management side to put new safer designs into production.  We also need political agreements for waste storage.

But all we do is attack the technology and the engineers, who are completely hamstrung.  It makes no sense.  We could have avoided this 3% year over year rise if we hadn't turned away from nuclear power 40 years ago.  We reap what we sow.
