    We are no different. They wiped out every tree on the Island in order to build huge stone heads. As a result, they could no longer build canoes. Didn't do much for their diet. We are no different. The scale is bigger.

      who cut down the last tree realized what they were doing?

      Or maybe they thought the gods would miraculously send them new trees.

      Anyway, their population declined by 90% and they resorted to cannibalism because they couldn't fish and agriculture became much more difficult without forest protection.
