  •  WTF with anti-nuclear fanaticism ??? (0+ / 0-)

Fact is, well run modern nukes reduce CO2 emissions by at least 6:1 compared with running coal-fired or natural gas-fired electric power plants.

Done with CO2 minimizing construction strategies, that ratio can be moved to 10:1.

Also, in case you hadn't noticed it for all the propaganda, no standard-design nuclear plant on earth has killed people. Thousands of plant-years of experience and nobody gets killed.

Meanwhile 2,000 miners a year get killed mining coal. 35/year in the U.S. The air pollution killed tens of thousands more people.

(Chernobyl was a one-off design, a piece of crazy bad Russian "engineering.")

Converting 100% of large-scale coal and gas plants to nukes ASAP would meet the goal of stopping down CO2 expansion to more manageable levels. There are enormous amounts of uranium available -- usable ores are as plentiful in the earth's crust as tin. It takes about two cubic meters of processed uranium to run a power plant for a year.

This is not a permanent solution. CO2 keeps going up. But maybe half as fast. Maybe a third as fast if the program was extended down to small-scale nukes, such as what South Africa has pioneered.

    Why not ???

    Assuming you're taking this seriously.....
