overconfidence and actual smug is another.

    (1) you can hire talent.

    (2) "suddenly" isn't a part of the equation. We're two years out from 2014 and four years out from the next presidential. Yes, we have an advantage now, we have the machine built. Right now the machine is in lock-down which I address in your point three.

    (3) Dashboard isn't "top-down"? Have you logged in lately? Both Dashboard and my Votebuilder accounts have been stripped of all the things we need to do now, never mind 2014. Even LDs can't organize VPBs much less anything else.

    P.S. Worry.

I don't feel we did wrong in taking this great country away from them. There were great numbers of people who needed new land, and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves. -John Wayne (-9.00,-8.86)

      1.  it's my understanding that the top guys are Blue and would rather not work for Repugs

      2.  if you think Rs will EVER embrace the groups I mentioned in an authentic way, even if they had 20 years instead of two, then I want some of what you are smoking.  Suddenly IS part of the equation.  People in the know are planning for 2014 and 2016 now (and have been planning before now).

      3.  Not sure what you mean by Dashboard being "stripped of all the things we need to do now."  But Dashboard is just a random example.  Twitter and FB and people's personal email networks are just as important, as is the whole of Left Blogistan, which is most definitely not controlled from the top down.

I am worried about various things the Red Team might do, but not about organization.  The winning strategy built by the Blue Team in 2008 and 2012 is anathema to the basic structure of the R party and they will not get it together in time for 2014 or 2016.

You can take that to the bank.

computer geek, but a campaign pro, and my list of losers is longer than winners by a mile.

        (1) Talent doesn't come in team colors. Yes, the Rs can't hire me, but so what? Walmart hires computer talent that can  buy my house a dozen times over..
        (2) "authentic"? And, yes , suddenly is a part of the equation. I'm one of the people looking down the road at 2014/2016. and I know better than to underestimate the opposition.
        (3) Dashboard rights have been severely reduced for those of us who had access to some features. So have Votebuilder accounts. LDs can't even generate VPB (virtual phone bank) lists anymore, and I can't e-mail groups of volunteers I CREATED! All of my volunteer coordinators are SOL, they can't do what they did (generate lists, bank- email local volunteers, etc.) anymore. And if you think twits and facebooking are as important as the GOTV tools we spent literally millions of bucks on, good for you kid. I know a campaign that has a used ORCA for sale.

You think the "Red Team" as you call them are stupid? How do you think we learned? In the post-Reagan years, we studied how their GOTV teams organized and hit the streets. I have a string of House races where we were just learning how to do what the "Red Team" was doing.

There are professional campaign operatives on both sides, kiddo. We work every two years, and have pickups here and there. "Basic structure" doesn't enter into the equation where we work. I know better than to trust any bank you have your money in.

        •  but that is because we by nature are adaptible (0+ / 0-)

they are not.  that's how we took what they did and copied it.

that's why they are still using their post-Reagan tactics, as if the world had not changed since then.  Talent does come in team colors.  They hired the best talent that was willing to work for them, and they were terrible.  On those points, you may find this diary interesting

yes, authentic.  Rs tried to pretend they loved Spanish speakers and women and youth and even black voters and nobody believed it.  it was inauthentic.  it did not garner them very many votes.  they tried selling Rmoney like soap and nobody wanted that brand of soap.

i'm sorry you lost your special dashboard features. the election was less than one month ago.  Let the system have a bit of a break.  I'm sure they will not wait long before the machine is back in use for 2014, and maybe even some critical 2013 elections.

i do not think the red team is stupid (well, not all of them) but I do think they are stuck right now.  they are in thrall to a voting bloc that is extremely resistant to ANY kind of compromise and change.  Without compromise and change they cannot do what we did!  Any professional campaign operative worth his or her salt is going to recommend that they CHANGE!  And they are NOT open to that idea right now.  And the chance that they will suddenly be open to it in time for 2014 or even 2016 is slim to none.
