the proportion of insurance companies who undervalue and lie about the losses is vastly higher, approaching 100%

"Couldn't be bothered to read the sticker"  Oh, I'm quite sure they did read it, and then added a "1" to it to see if you'd fight and pocket the change if you didn't.

Standard operating procedure I'm afraid.  Frankly, he only won once he demonstrated evidence taht would stand up in court.

Did I ever tell you the time my insurance company kept "losing claims" even after I had return receipts?  Of course, as soon as I mentioned that they "found" the bills and paid them.  Even the ones that weren't in the envelope for which I had the return reciept.

over and over, or deny that the PD had sent it, over and over.  Finally, my attorney called the claims representative, got his FAX number, faxed him the report, and let him know the courthouse would be open the next week to file a lawsuit.

(I had previously FAXed the police report myself, as well as had the PD send it, which they had written records of doing, yet they denied the report was ever received.)

Suddenly, the paperwork went through.  They do that stuff just to see how far they can push it.  If a lawyer calls them and they've got no defense for their actions, they pay quickly.
