    The whole idea that there is some center to be negotiated around is silly, especially when the GOP feels compromise is a one-way street.

    I hope he's only saying that because he knwos the GOP can't compromise, but in reality the whole frame around finding a center between (center-left) democrats and (batshit insane) republican plans is folly.

    Arguing with a crazy person is bad for your health.

      and one side wants to sacrifice a human, so the compromise is to sacrifice both, in the spirit of bipartisanship (and I'm convinced that if this was a literal and not metaphorical example, there'd be more than a few "Very Serious People" who'd "reluctantly" agree that it's not such an unthinkable idea so long as we make sure to compensate the human's family and did it "humanely"--Swift comes to mind).
