  •  Interesting that Stephens says out loud (18+ / 0-)

the Big Truth about media ownership: What gets published and what doesn't sets the agenda for public discourse. In that way, it can increase profits from other investments. He wants to manipulate, not inform, the electorate. That's why we used to have laws limiting the consolidation of ownership. Now five corporations own most of the US media, and we have paid dearly for being manipulated.

Too bad for him he's deluded about "bloggers in pajamas." We have a remarkable breadth of people and expertise here at DK (for example). The Internet does affect the agenda of the corporate media, simply because they look so stupid ignoring news widely reported online. They must report things they'd rather ignore to maintain their only asset, credibility.

Stephens must not have been in Little Rock when the 4.7 quake struck in February 2010, or he might not be so enthusiastic about fracking. Injection wells enlarged the existing fault to six times its previous size, and it had to be renamed the Guy-Greenbriar fault. No quakes of similar size since the injection wells were banned.

We felt it up in north-central Arkansas, and within a couple months our two big 60-year-old Corps dams had to have damaged parts custom-made. I cannot prove causation, of course, but greedy realtors have been selling lots in the White River's flood plain based on those old dams. No telling what the consequences would have been if one of them broke!

Maybe I shouldn't have watched the video, as it distracted me from the good news about President Obama taking some power from the banks.

Thanks for the news we couldn't read anywhere else, Hannah ;)

    •  next time I visit family in AR/OK, I'd love to (5+ / 0-)

      meet you.

I have no idea when that will be, but it would be good to have non-conservative contact when I'm there.

    •  Thanks for This Comment. (0+ / 0-)

That video has been bugging me since I watched it yesterday. The smug, condescension of Stephens about bloggers in pj's is precisely why the right wing capitalists in this country fail. Stephens assumes that only brick and mortar edifices with a "significant" capital investment will impress folks with its legitimacy. We've been watching the "legitimacy" of "news' from brick and mortars for eons. There is no guarantee of either under these circumstance. That being stated, I do think there is a good argument for editors. In times past I have written a lot of professional legal stuff and if it had not been for a steely-eyed editor my writing would have been more mediocre than it was. I wish we could, here, achieve that type of oversight.
