  •  Monsanto somehow had the right (16+ / 0-)

to sue farmers if wheat with Roundup genes turned up in the farmers field due to drift .

    •  Isn't that great? Like patenting a cold virus, and (4+ / 0-)

… then going around suing anyone who catches "your" cold.

their patent, and one of the claims it would make was that neighboring farmers were infringing on their patent. IIRC, organic farmers who had fields next to Monsanto land might find themselves with crops that would not meet the requirements for the organic label because of Roundup spray that had drifted over their adjacent land and crops.

people and small businesses with the equipment and know how to gather, process, handle and store seeds for planting... ones who were working for farmers using non-Monsanto seeds, important heirloom strains of many types of crops... which are all now more endangered than ever.

they get routinely arrested and charged with stealing Monsanto product and run out of business...

Crop diversity, free choice, independent small farmers and farming support businesses are all being squeezed out or destroyed by Monsanto.

Add to that they have bought up most of the independent seed catalog companies and closed or merged some and changed what they sell as well... some varieties that compete with Monsanto in however small a way are just not as available as they once were...

Beyond the better known Roundup and GMO part of their monopoly machine this corporation is out of control and destructive in ways most people are unaware of or don't fully appreciate... diversity and the actual existence of many varieties along with the small independent businesses involved with them are all being wiped out by their greed.
