    that's the whole basis behind the prior FCC rules, regarding ownership of both radio & tv stations. because the airwaves belong to the public, the radio/tv industry is required to serve the public interest, not the reverse. the public airwaves position also made constitutional rules regarding who could own those stations, and whether or not they could own them in a particular market.

    the whole point was to avoid monopolies in the industry, such as a Clear Channel, because that wasn't good for competition. similar to the rules requiring banks and their investment arms to be separated. once the republicans got in power (yeah, i know, you're shocked), they changed those rules, and the results haven't been pretty.

    the thing about republicans, that people don't understand, is that when they get power, they massively fuck everything in their path up, both public & private. they can't help themselves, it's like it's in their DNA.
