    but as a racial minority, I don't care if the people voting for my candidate harbor racist things. I just don't. I don't care if they're religious fundamentalists. I don't care if they cling to their guns. A vote is a vote is a vote.

    If we want to build a coalition of the working of class, a lot of them will have these attitudes and that will never change. And as long as we don't have such a coalition, the Democratic party will never take a strong stand on economic issues. I still think Howard Dean was right, we need "the guys with Confederate flags on their pickup trucks". We still need the 50 state strategy. My ideal candidate is someone who can combine progressive economic and social positions with a cultural "credibility" that can appeal to people such as these.
