  •  I have, at last count, five dogs, one cat and a (6+ / 0-)

stilllborn Welsh pony filly buried on my property.

Kiri, Elf, Soldier, Fat Ricky were Corgis. Loki was a mutt who looked like a furry, blunt-nose wolf.I found him at the Humane Society, a ball of fluff that covered a bony little body. Smudge was a white cat with one blue eye and one gold eye who showed up in my road culvert as a kitten. The filly was upside down in her dam's uterus and by the time I got a vet to my place, it was too late. We got her out, but she was gone. Pewter gray, exquisite....she would have been black, a color rare in Welsh ponies.

I buried all of them. Most I took to the vet to put down. It is sad to see a friend go, but all do eventually. The quality of their life is what's important, and I think all my animals had good happy lives.

Oscar was lucky that you came into his life. I have a little Corgi named Annie now that I got from someone who was at the very least her third owner.  She gives indications that people have thrown thing at her and struck her...but she no longer cowers when I pick up a trowel or a broom, she tears around herding my Miniature Horses, chases rabbits and is, I think, a pretty happy little dog. That is what is important. That you and a dog, a cat or any other kind of pet can make each other happy.

I send a belly scratch and an ear rub to Oscar, where ever he may be, and the same to the animals I've been privileged to know and are for. Bless them all.

Freedom has two enemies: Those who want to control everyone around them...and those who feel no need to control themselves.
