  •  One of the perks of being in the military.. (9+ / 0-)

My Cav unit was doing some aerial gunnery at Smokey Hill range in Kansas with our AH-1F Cobra's.. nearby there were A-10's and F-16's doing gunnery passes on the parachute target... which was cool.  Then while we were there one day a flight of more than a few B-52's came in and did low passes dropping training bombs rigged with parachutes,  Now THAT was awesome to see up close and personal (about 1/4 mile away).

Yes, Reality does have a Liberal bias. So does the truth. And the Republicans will never change that, no matter how much money they spend.

I served with the 1st Cav for a bit overseas, buy my unit was Nebraska Guard.... not as storied or glamorous, but still was a fun and good unit to be in.  They fly Chinooks now (and I crewed them until a couple of years ago).  There are only a few Air Cav units left (SC and AZ in the Guard) and the rest still flying OH-58D's on active duty.

"Is that the build date? Nov '70, stenciled up top?

          Yup

SO this was 1st Air Cav in Nam?

Why yes, lemme show you the cockpit.

His eyes lite up as I said 1st Air Cav.

          storied or glamorous
From what I've read they wrote the book, sort of like, heres a hot rod chopper packed with guns, were not sure how to use it, but heres the keys to the ignition. Try it out.

          Massive attrition.
