    •  Obama didn't run on that platform (0+ / 0-)

at all, so that comment was baseless youth-bashing. And most of us couldn't care less about marijuana legalization compared to how unfair this society is to anyone who is not a heterosexual white guy - THAT is why we voted for the President four years ago and again in November. We're the most open and inclusive generation in existence, which is why we are the ones who are most reliable at voting for the Democrats.

      •  LOL - tell that to the hundreds of thousands (5+ / 0-)

Individuals (mostly minorities BTW) who are incarcerated over pot offenses. Try telling that to their families as well. Talk about not having a clue.

It was a comment on the political tone-deafness of the administration on this issue.

The crowd that's afraid of pot legalization -- the reefer-madness generation -- is largely made of older voters. Cracking down on the marijuana initiatives is going to look silly and tawdry to younger voters, as well as sending the message that the Democrats are just as bad about this stuff as the Republican authoritarians. And young people will have one less reason to consider voting Democratic in the future.

The political downside for the Dems far, far outstrips the political upside to cracking down on Washington and Colorado. And the youth vote is a big component of that.

I am middle-aged, myself. I've never smoked pot (or even tobacco). And I think the whole war of drugs is a waste -- an opinion shared by many, many voters, most of them younger than me.

        •  Yes, I agree that the war on drugs (0+ / 0-)

does a lot more harm than it should, and that it's madness it still exists when so much evidence points to how needless fighting such a random fight is and what it does to people's lives.

What I was offended by was more a matter of talking about young people as a one-issue voting bloc and implying we just "wanna get high". I think this war needs to end and I don't get for the life of me why even MEDICAL marijuana hasn't been legalized everywhere, it was more the tone of the accusation.
