  •  You can fix ignorant sometimes, though. (38+ / 0-)

Not always, and it's not easy, but it is possible to give people better information so that you can break down their preconceptions and understand.

We're information junkies - our hobby is finding this stuff out for ourselves.  A lot of people either don't have the time, or haven't made the time, to get into the issues that deeply.  They hear a story on TV or read it in the paper and think that it's true and complete.  It's like the ACA - people didn't like "Obamacare" because they kept hearing repub talking points, but when the individual elements of the plan are spelled out for them, they support them (or, like us, they wish they went even further).  But TradMedia was not giving them that information.

Likewise, TradMedia didn't explain the tax increases on the wealthy accurately.  I'm sure it had nothing to do with media execs' desire to pay less.  So many people think that once you earned $250,001 dollars, your taxes go up on the whole amount, and they didn't support that (even when they're nowhere near that earning level).  When you explain that the higher tax rate only applies to the amount over $250 and everything below that is taxed the same as the rest of us, they are much more likely to support it.  When you explain that capital gains is taxed at a much lower rate than income earned by actually working, they support raising capital gains rates.  The problem is, TradMedia is not making those things clear.  It's up to us to try to fix ignorant, even though we'll never fix stupid.

They are so vehement in their objection that people think that they couldn't be wrong, after all they are on teevee.  I heard Glenn Beckerhead say that one time.  "If I wasn't telling the truth i wouldn't be on teevee."  LOL, what thinking person who is half paying attention believes that?
