  •  Well, it's only money and the people in (7+ / 0-)

charge of managing the currency are the folks on Capitol Hill. What they've been doing is creating an artificial scarcity so they can reward their friends and punish their enemies--us. You see, now that universal suffrage, as well as modern access to information, actually makes government by the people possible, our erstwhile representatives (correctly) perceive that their hegemony is in danger. Not only can we hold their feet to the fire, we can insist that they serve or send them packing.
But they are slow. Somehow, the 85 freshmen in 2010, the second largest turnover in the House, did not send the message that the populace is distressed. The curtailment of ear-marks did not have the desired effect for the simple reason that the Uncle Cons have for quite some time relied more on punishments or the threat of punishment to get themselves elected, rather than bringing home the bacon.
Unfortunately, from the Cons' point of view, they realize they can't threaten to punish everyone, but are running out of convenient target groups to serve as exemplars of what happens to people when they don't obey. The "party of no" moniker is not an accident. The Cons in Congress have learned how to keep themselves in office and in power by not doing the job and not meeting the obligations of office. That their bite could be worse than it is is not much of a recommendation.

We organize governments to deliver services and prevent abuse.
