    thought those fantastic buildings and artworks were fabulous.  Beat eating, that's for sure.  

    Keep a foot on the throat of the poor and praise the rich.  The Medicis were an organized crime ring far uglier than a lot of the present day examples.  Just because they used their ill-gotten gains for art and architecture doesn't cleanse their blood money.
