  •  Because the Confederacy of Sadists is into (11+ / 0-)

Remember the asp at Cleopatra's bosom? Well the Confederacy of Sadists, headquartered on Capitol Hill is an asp on the bosom of democracy.
I think I like the asp better than the dog that bites the hand that feeds it. The Cons can't help themselves.

But, as a practical matter, if age is up for discussion, then that is an opportunity to remove the age restriction entirely for Medicare and bring it into compliance with the Constitution. Since injury and illness are not age-connected, the segregation by age has no rational basis.
The retirement program merely needs to be more inclusive when it comes to who shares the obligations. But, that's the rub. The Cons flinch from obligations like Satan from the cross.
"I don't want to be a burden" is really a euphemistic expression meaning "I don't want no obligations."
Such people indeed to be reminded this is not Alice's Restaurant. Nobody cares what they want. It is need that we are focused on.
Take it from hard hearted hannah. :)

We organize governments to deliver services and prevent abuse.

But it makes sense that if we have Medicare for some, equal protection under the Constitution requires Medicare for all.
