Costa Rica.  The country with an almost futuristic infrastructure that really made my jaw drop was France - especially the freeways and high speed rail stations of Southern France.

long, long time. My first introduction to fast trains was the old Shinkansen, now sometimes known as the 0 Series. Very nice and I remember we thought the train was late, a horrible idea, puling out of Tokyo Central until raising the shade and seeing the city going by at a fast clip. I also remember up at speed having a Kirin in a tall glass and not a ripple as it sat on the counter. Still, that was not what impressed me as much as transport integration and already electronic/early digital integration into daily life such as my hotel rooms.

I still returned home to an "advanced" country, but that is not really the case anymore. In sector after sector I feel a bit more like I did going from 1970s U.S. to Spain or Portugal.
