  •  The Congress is rationing the currency instead of (11+ / 0-)

    distributing it as needed.

Partly it's because it makes them feel important; partly it's because they don't know any better.

    My thoughts today.

out the people who make law and policy. Until we can turn the tables on them, we're pretty much screwed.

          •  We might also consider that their cavalier (4+ / 0-)

attitude towards the law is that they consider it an instrument of subordination and don't count on it being enforced against them. The "rule of law" is merely a strategy which permits them to deprive people of rights without leaving any fingerprints.
The use of the law to subordinate and subjugate is not new. Slavery was the law of the land. The removal of the native peoples was done according to law.  For that matter, the internment of Jews in Germany and the stripping of their property was accomplished according to the law. So, more recently in this country, was the deprivation of speech via DADT, the violations of free association via DOMA and the invasion of an innocent land via the AUMF.
The law is not necessarily just. The victims know it; many other people do not.

I keep my sig line to remind me of the uses of power. It seems that the law and justice are about as far apart as they can be right now. It's time we pushed them closer together.

    •  I wish there was a law that ppl 65+ (0+ / 0-)

were paid 5% interest on their savings.  In the present situation, many seniors are forced to use principal to survive, which is destroying the life-long plans for retirement.

I know it's a pipe dream, but I can wish.

It's difficult to be happy knowing so many suffer. We must unite.

      •  We don't really want to have special rules (3+ / 0-)

        based on age.
Many people were suckered into saving money in order to make it available for Wall Street gamblers to play with.
The federal government giving out free money and paying a dividend to borrow it back was/is a stupid idea.  The Fed has been trying to break "investors" of the habit of expecting to get free income from the float by announcing that the interest rate it charges will not increase for the next two years. In the late nineties and early two thousands, the Fed was jiggling interest rates every three months in an effort to "regulate" the economy. It turned out to be ineffectual, so they've given that up. Since money is a tool, a symbol of value, which has not intrinsic worth (much like an inch or centimeter), there is no good reason to either ration it or ascribe an artificial value to it.

Projects should be judged not on how much they cost, but on whether they are worth doing in the first place.
