it doesn't apply to you. Diarists have generally painted with the same brush all the wealthy who do certain behaviors (park their money offshore to avoid paying taxes, inherit their wealth and then condemn others for not being born on third, etc.). If you're not in that group, you're not in that group and these diaries aren't about you.

Probably the thing that gets people's hackles up is the implicit assumption that hard work = wealth. It ain't necessarily so. Anyone, yourself included, can point to examples of people who have worked their butts off their entire lives and aren't wealthy. There just isn't that automatic connection.

What I want, and others here want, is not even necessarily wealth--I want my working-my-butt-off to result in a comfortable living wage so I can support my family, with health and retirement benefits so I can focus on the work and not on the catastrophic illness that will probably bankrupt me or worry about ending up on the street in my old age.

If you pay that type of wage to your employees, then you are not in the group that diarists are against. If it's not about you, then it's not about you.

I'm amazed by people's courage and kindness in the face of everything and life.

but "luck" affects everyone (without exception) to some degree, and there's no way it can be made to be "fairly" distributed ... thus the reason it's called "luck".  Nothing about life is meant to guarantee fairness, but hard work goes a long way to make up for the lack of it.  I've never known crying about the lack of it to change a damn thing.
