  •  As of looking a moment ago, (15+ / 0-)

the 9-year-old C&J had 7 recs. Come on, folks, rec it up!! Show the man some love!

    •  Somebody needs to tell David Waldman (10+ / 0-)

to quit stepping on BiPM's tail.

C&J drops out of sight on the front page with great rapidity these days.

      •  You can tell me. (5+ / 0-)

I just don't actually have anything to do with it. I write the posts, and I hand 'em off to the managing editors, and when they run, they run.

But I'm happy to listen to you tell me!

Nice to see you dabbling your toes in the shallow end!

I don't pay enough attention to who's running the show around here. It does seem that Meteor Blades' Open Thread for Night Owls usually has center stage for quite a long time and then the morning line-up comes a bit rapid fire. I'm not really concerned though. Bill has a guaranteed audience.

Also, from photos I've seen he doesn't appear to have a tail to be stepped on.

Care for a slice of birthday cake?

          •  I think you hit the nail on the head. (5+ / 0-)

Bill's audience finds Bill. Even if it were happening on purpose, it wouldn't work.

But honestly, yes, I'd prefer if everyone had a nice chunk of time up at the top of the page. Morning's a busy time. And blah, blah, blah, yes I'll have cake.

Y'know, it's usually David Nir postin' stuff mere minutes after C&J goes up anyway...

I'll have a word with the Manager.

Obviously my problem is with there being too many guys named David.

              Like my son for instance...

              Cheers!

      •  It's entirely my doing. (4+ / 0-)

I can't stop editing in the morning--there's always something that can be written more clearly or, sometimes, funnier--so I end up posting at the last second.  That's why I post manually instead of turning it over to the queue.

But mornings have definitely gotten busier, and that's a good thing.  In the old, old days, C&J would be up top sometimes for, like, 2-3 hours and I'd start getting vertigo.

Just mulling over this at the moment: "... to take up arms against a sea of Davids ..."

I have occasionally noticed one of Markos' front page pieces climbing the rec list. I can't remember the last time I saw one of your delicately crafted masterpieces over there on the right. The front page scrolling waterfall of doom can't be climbed but moving from the craggy, unscrolled archives to the rec list does keep a diary in the spotlight longer. I'm often remiss in my rec-ing efforts around here.

I've tried to do better lately.

There is an odd discrepancy between your readership (your polls regularly receive thousands of votes. Last Monday's poll topped over 5,500) and the recs C&J accumulates. Not even all who tinkle their keyboards in the kiddie pool rec it. Front page diaries from you infinite mojo types rarely get many recs -- I think you and I were among the 5 or so recs for David Waldman's piece Monday morning (afternoon over here).

I've no idea of how Markos and his technical crew have set up the algorithms that determine how many recs it takes to get a front page piece on the rec list but it seems to me that the bar is set much higher for you front-pagers.

Anyway, I've been known to fiddle about with my diaries (correcting spelling and such) for quite awhile after posting and I don't have a thousandth of the diary load that you do or anything resembling a regular time slot. In other words, you've got my sympathies on the never-ending editing syndrome.

At any rate you'll hear no complaints from me about the quality of the service around here. Just wish I could do more to support your efforts.
