  •  NOT the Heritage (11+ / 0-)

Society Foundation. He works at the American Enterprise Institute. And while it's understandable that we here tend to see all right-wing think tanks as pretty much the same, they're not.

Cato, for instance, is staunchly libertarian, and frequently gives the GOP as much heartburn as they give us. The Heritage Foundation has recently hired non-thinker Jim DeMint to run the place, and has been written off as any sort of policy innovator by all but the craziest of the crazy (like Jim DeMint).

AEI, where Ornstein is a fellow, is the last refuge of the "intellectual" conservative movement, which, frankly, is in tatters, as the list you've posted of his "fellow fellows" illustrates. No, he doesn't belong there ideologically, but as long as they're willing to have him, I say more power to him. I just wish he could keep the rest of them honest.

I confused the Heritage and the AEI.

I'll cross it out and correct.

            if this is correct:

Lady Thatcher has spoken at The Heritage Foundation on a number of occasions. In an open letter to Heritage members, she noted that she looks to Heritage "to carry forward my legacy in the United States" because it is "an organization committed to defending and restoring sound conservative principles."

The Right Honourable The Baroness Thatcher, LG, PC, OM, FRS
            Former British Prime Minister

In September 2006, Baroness Thatcher added a unique title to her list of honors: Patron of The Heritage Foundation. It is a designation that recognizes her "singular contributions as a leader of the free world and to the improvement of the life of her nation and people."

As Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1979 to 1990, Margaret Thatcher joined her "noble friend," U.S. President Ronald Reagan, in directly challenging the oppressive communism of the Soviet Empire. The Russian people honored her efforts by nicknaming her the "Iron Lady."

Lady Thatcher also restored Great Britain to its position as a world power through economic reforms emphasizing deregulation and privatization. The success of her economic policies led other nations--including those in newly free Central and Eastern Europe--to adopt similar market-based reforms.

In 2005, Lady Thatcher selected The Heritage Foundation to house the new Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom. The Thatcher Center specializes in the study of transatlantic relations, with a special emphasis on advancing initiatives to strengthen the "special relationship" between the United States and Great Britain.

I was making reference to the fact that Thatcher is no longer compos mentis, by all reports. But her patronage of Heritage wouldn't be shocking, given her relationship with Reagan.

sent the billion dollar battle ship to the seas on the east side of Argentina to be sunk.

Somehow she reminds me of the character, Major Kong, from Dr Strangelove played by Slim Pickens:

The man who succeeded her as conservative Prime Minister,  John Major seemed far saner. :)

                •  Well, I haven't seen (0+ / 0-)

Iron Lady yet (though it is on my queue). Does it end with her riding a bomb?

PS - Dr. Strangelove is one of my five favorite movies of all time.

her riding a bomb would be a fitting conclusion to her mania, IMO.
And keep in mind, my having been born in Canada, part of the British Empire at the time, I suppose, it was all family:)
