AMERICAN holly?  If it isn't native in Virginia, it certainly would have fooled me.  Many genera are present on both sides of the Atlantic in slightly different forms.  Here in Richmond it's a major source of nectar and pollen for honeybees; our late spring (May-June) honeyflow is mainly from the holly bloom.  That's our HARVEST; we rob the honey around the 4th of July and then let the bees keep everything they make from the summer flowers and the goldenrod flow in the autumn.
