  •  I only recently became aware of the whole (6+ / 0-)

"weave" thing.  Yeah -- I'm slow that way.  But what guy pays attention to women's hair?  They style it, they color it, they treat it, they spend hours fucking with it.  You want to know what instructions for a guy's haircut sounds like? "Short on the side, about an inch on the top, taper in the back and keep the sideburns."  Later in life it's just, "Use a number two razor all around, taper in the back."
We get it cut and move on.

But the more I learned about the "weave" and "extensions" the sadder it got.  Now I understand the how cruel the whole Gabby Douglas bullshit really was.  How better to fuck with a little girl's self esteem than to mock her hair?

It doesn't matter what color she is, she will hate her hair.  If it flows in a cascade of curly locks, she wants it straight.  If she is a raven-haired beauty, she wishes she was blonde.  If she has long straight hair, she wants it curled.

But the whole extension thing strikes me as particularly sad.  It's not changing your hair, it's denying its existence.  And that kind of denial goes down to the roots.

I think it is sweet that Dolly Parton scares Stephen Colbert; Jane Fonda merely flustered him.
