  •  Your belittlement of Fundamental Principles (6+ / 0-)

represents, in my judgment, the antitithesis of progressive values of a society governed by the rule of law and born of the Enlightenment.  But yes, this requires, perhaps, a tedious abstraction for some ... or you.

With information and reflection it should be clear to anyone that today's "blood of children" is not a function of available firepower ... it is a function of cross-correlative independent variables involving well recognized socio-demographic factors -- principally comprising income, education, gender, age, race/ethnicity, prior criminal history, substance abuse and mental health.

The real math in this issue also surely confounds those for whom the emotive reaction suffices ... some 99+ percent of the 300 million or so guns in this country are not involved in gun related homicide deaths or violence.  I would commend you for processing that fact ... if not by principle, then perhaps by data.  Essentially all guns owned today ... do not kill or injure people.  If a distinct minority of guns do, then why?  Therein lies the more rational and efficacious policy solution.

You should reevaluate the merits of your "firepower" arguments, because they are as simplistic as they are incorrect.

The one permanent emotion of the inferior man is fear - fear of the unknown, the complex, the inexplicable. What he wants above everything else is safety. H.L. Mencken

      but that might sound argumentative.
Other than that I agree with you, well said. And not to pick on Tom, there are many who talk like him...but people are horrified and shocked so neither can they be criticized, certainly by me. ugh.
