  •  The things they don't think about (17+ / 0-)

Whether it be the Hannity's, or the plain Janes and Joes who want to see the unions reined in, they don't think about that list for a couple of reasons.

First, they take it for granted. 40 hour week, week-ends off, paid holidays, OSHA regs - they've always had that stuff, and they figure that's how it always was and always will be. They have no clue where it came from, and less of a clue that it can easily be eroded away.

Second, if challenged about those issues many take the stance that it just makes business sense. Employers will do that on their own because it makes for a more productive and profitable workplace. Of course, if that were the case the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory would have been a model of safety and generosity.

"...you can’t find any oxygen from outside the aircraft to get in the aircraft, because the windows don’t open. I don’t know why they don’t do that. It’s a real problem." Mitt Romney

    •  Plus, the Hannitys don't want to talk about it (7+ / 0-)

They get paid very well to NOT talk about it.

    •  And consider those who don't earn (0+ / 0-)

an hourly wage, and are usually anti union.

Including those on salary (for "blue collar" jobs), commission, and "piece work" (Interstate Truck Drivers) paid by the mile.

Usually do not have the benefit of overtime pay, and routinely work 80hrs or more per week.

Add to that the 1099 employment class (often abused) contract workers, the exploitation of the US workforce spreads much further than most people realize.

If not us ... who? If not here ... where? If not now ... when?
