  •  One thing that has always bothered me (6+ / 0-)

about the "Mexicans come here to steal our jobs" pitch.

Yes, it's illegal. But what about those who employ illegals?

From the guy who shows up with a pickup truck at a corner where Latinos gather in North Fort Worth and yells, in Spanish, "Anyone looking for work?" Then works those who climb into the back of the truck for twelve hours or more at a stretch and pays them less than minimum wage.

To the giant agribusiness corporations that literally bus workers in from Mexico.

Where is the anger against them? Where are the calls for them to be prosecuted?

No, just slam the people who work. In the fields, in the restaurants, in the factories. Assume that everyone with brown hair, brown eyes and a last name like Lopez or Hernandez is lazy. And an illegal. Who wants to flood America with brown-eyed, black-haired babies. If they can't speak English, it's because they can't be bothered to learn. (How many languages do you speak, racist?)  They're not "real" Americans. They don't care about our "American way of life."

I work as an election judge. We had one gentleman come in to vote who spoke almost no English. I worked with him for a good half-hour, and between my few words of Spanish and the Spanish language narration he was listening to on the booth's headsets, (there were printed Spanish instructions, but they, like the English insturctions, are written in semi-legalese and most people find them confusing) he carefully worked his way through the ballot and voted.

One of my GOP coworkers just had to say, after he left, "Wow. That took awhile."

"Yes. He had to put in a lot of effort. I don't know what you call that....I call it good citizenship."

    God help us.

Freedom has two enemies: Those who want to control everyone around them...and those who feel no need to control themselves.
