  •  And Republicans wonder why... (4+ / 0-)

... they don't get the minority vote. I just finished reading Wrong on Race: The Democratic Party's Buried Past. It's a truly baffling and appalling book.

I'd recommend reading the sample, it's not really worth buying it. I wouldn't have read it if I hadn't been able to get it at the library. The introduction is the most interesting part.

First of all, that the Democratic Party used to be the conservative, racist party isn't "buried", anyone with any knowledge of history knows this. I'd be a Republican if I lived in Lincoln's time.

But the book pretends that the Republican Party doesn't have a racism problem. It is true that there were Republicans who voted for the Civil Rights Act, but ignored that they were moderates, who are now derived as RINOS. It ignores the fact that Ronald Reagan, whom the book describes as "color blind" opposed the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act. When Reagan famously said "I didn't leave the Democratic Party, they left me," he was talking about the Democratic Party eliminating taking up the mantle of Civil Rights. Ronald Reagan's kicking off his Presidential campaign in Philadelphia, Mississippi by talking about "States Rights" wasn't lost on minorities.

The author attempts to drive a wedge between Latinos and African-Americans. He tells African-Americans that IF they start voting Republican, then MAYBE the Republican Party will do something for them. One if his favorite demands he makes on African-Americans is that they give up affirmative action.

Ann Coulter is just engaging in typical Republican behavior: demonizing a group and then being baffled when they don't get the support of that group.

The wolfpack eats venison. The lone wolf eats mice.
