    Well, one could point out the ignorance about Latinos shown by most people who insist on denigrating them.  The detractors aren't interested in learning when a particular person's family might have moved here to North America - whether it was mid-16th century pre-Mayflower or early 21st century.  The crowd which can handle only stereotypes will always find a way to discriminate because it makes their life much easier.

      My students rarely know the answer to the "what was the first city founded by Europeans in what is now the continental US?"

      They always say Jamestown ...or something along those lines.

      Have never had any of them name St. Augustine (or Childersburg)
