There are still unions here.  It's just that some jobs are unionized and some aren't (mine's not).

We don't talk about unions here much, at least not that I know of.  I have some friends who belong to unions, but it's never a topic for conversation and it doesn't get in the way of socializing.

I know they work straight up 8 hour days which include paid breaks and I work 9 hour days with no breaks (if I took the breaks, my work day would be an hour longer).  They get paid overtime and comp time; I don't (so I try not to work any overtime). Most of the benefits I have are mandated by state law, and apply to union as well as non-union jobs.

Mostly, though, we don't talk about our jobs and unions.

I mean in the same company, where you have most of the employees in a union, and a few moochers show up.

      just to clarify.

Conservatives need to realize that their Silent Moral Majority is neither silent, nor moral, nor a majority.

If you were standing next to a fellow worker in a unionized workplace, there would be conversations about union matters.

(not if) it became known that you don't feel like paying union dues - and they DO pay their dues - and you expect the same benefits they have negotiated, without your support of dues?  This probably will not go over well.

When you expect the same benefits as paying members have worked hard for? Opting out of paying your fair share is going to promote conversations which may well result in a chilled environment for you.
