  •  So two 60-year-olds can't get married... (6+ / 0-)

because "they can never conceive children together." I married my current wife when she was post-menopausal, so does that mean we're not legally married under DOMA or are not people deserving of 14th Amendment protections. By the way, we have consummated our marriage (many many times now!) and think our marriage is beneficial to society, as well as to ourselves and our acquired families.

So if two people, any two people, love each other and want to get married, I say more power to them--the more love the better. Marriage is positively wonderful when you're with someone you love and respect and who loves and respects you, and that shouldn't be denied to any couple lucky enough to find their special someone, male or female. But it can also be sad and soul-wrenching if that love and respect later dies and disappears. I've been through both, and am so glad I finally found someone who loves being with me for the long haul as much as I love being with her. So hooray for love and all who can find it. And those who don't like that are just grinches and can go to hell.

These are troubling times. Corporations are treated like people. People are treated like things. ... If we ever needed to vote we sure do need to vote now. — Rev. Dr. William Barber, II to the NAACP, July 11, 2012

Remember that Sarah conceived Isaac when she was beyond childbearing years, and when Abraham was 100 years old!

      Genesis 21:1-7 (KJV, of course!):.

And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken. For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac. And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him. And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him. And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me. And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age.

Together for nearly twenty years and we don't have children. I guess we're not really married.

and in fact this was one of the arguments used in Goodridge:  since people past childbearing age and/or otherwise incapable of childbearing are allowed to marry, that proves ability for procreation is NOT a requirement for a legally valid marriage

      marriage equality for ALL
