  •  Seems like the solution is pretty obvious. (17+ / 0-)

Eliminate the budget for federal marijuana enforcement as part of the Obama administration's fiscal negotiations - save bundles of money AND serve freedom simultaneously.  Of course Republikkkans would be against it, but at least it would be entertaining listening to them screech about a budget apocalypse and then insist that that's no reason to stop locking up hippies.

    •  Don't fool yourself. (8+ / 0-)

There are as many Republican politicians and conservative thinkers who are for marijuana legalization as Democrats, and as many Democratic drug warriors as Republicans. Read all the stuff that is coming out about Joe Biden as drug warrior.
Obama's DOJ has been more active in closing state legal marijuana operations than the Bush administration.

under Obama than there were under Bush, so that's not really a valid comparison.

        •  That's just not true. I know you'd like it to be, (0+ / 0-)

but the overwhelming majority of such operations are in California and there were just as many in 2008.

          Thousands of clinics and co-ops.

Bush wasn't refraining from raiding them out of some sort of lack of targets.

here in Northern CA.  At least seems so.

Even Democrats can be asses. Look at Rahm Emanuel.

            •  Do you know whether there's been (0+ / 0-)

a proportional increase, or is it just that there's been more medical MJ around and thus what was previously a relatively fringe issue is now prominent?

                that outweighs production scale.

95% of all life forms that once existed on earth are now extinct. It is only a matter of time until the Republicans follow suit.

                •  I don't know if that's the case (0+ / 0-)

but we have to deal with the fact that marijuana is still illegal under federal law, and there is still a huge bureaucracy behind enforcement of that fact.  But as I say, the budget talks are a good opportunity to rid ourselves of much if not all of that.

                  •  I'm just hoping Holder goes in second term (0+ / 0-)

he is responsible for most of the policy and arrests.  Yes the DOJ has to uphold hte current law, but that does not mean they have ot actively pursue every single lead.

four years as in the previous four.

The industry in CA hasn't really grown in that time.

You can't have a conversation about drug policy with a person who has no interest in drug policy, but only a desire to defend a personal idol.

It's like trying to have a productive discussion about music theory on a Justin Beiber fan site.

Sure Biden did shitty things. So didTip O'Neal.

But the Dems have NOTHING remotely similar to the foamy-mouthed hatred republicans have brought to the war on marijuana.

        Nothing.

For the GOP, full endorsement of reefer madness is a litmus test to move into the ranks of power.

Nixon, Reagan, Bush I and Bush II. Sure Clinton didn't lift a finger to do anything about it, but THAT'S A DEMOCRAT: living in complete fear of being called "soft on crime' by a bunch of fucked up republicans.

Repubs have a Holy War against the weed and all dems bring to the effort is their brand of premature and needless caving.

DEms SHOULD be the one to fix this mess and take the glory.

If they werent such abject frightened weenies.

        More reason to commend Leahy.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men.

is Biden.  Biden is very much against legalization.
