  •  You think Gov. Snyder (13+ / 0-)

will still sign the "guns allowed in daycare centers and schools" law?

It's not easy being a Floridian: PS I'm a lawYER now; no longer a lawSTUDENT.

    •  Yep. Because armed commando teachers... (8+ / 0-)

would have stopped this guy.  That is the NRA nutter fantasy afterall.  More and more guns - everybody armed.  And then when everybody armed, you have a further arms race to outgun each other and gun companies make killer profit (macabre pun intended)

      So he probably will.

    •  yes, sadly, I do. (4+ / 0-)

The combination of partisan revenge and the profit motive behind these laws is greater than these "leaders'" concern for, or responsibility towards the citizens they profess to serve.

because if we armed the teachers, this wouldn't have happened.  Or maybe like the cops that shot up the unarmed couple with hundred plus rounds a couple weeks back and ended up shooting their own cars, panicked people will just produce more carnage.

20/20 did an experiment after VTech. They went into a college classroom, told all the kids that a gunman was going to come in (armed with a paintball gun). They gave a paintball gun to one student and said, your mission is to take out the shooter before he takes out you.

They picked a wide assortment of students for the experiment; some had little experience with guns, some had a lot (one kid was an experienced hunter and target shooter). When the shooter burst into the classroom, every single one of the students with a gun got "killed." And they already knew a shooter was coming in through the door.

It really shocked them, especially the ones with significant gun experience. When the reporter spoke to several law enforcement folks from the FBI, they basically said, yeah, it's really hard to shoot another human being, all your instincts tell you not to do it. Which is why we have to practice and drill all the time.

It was also interesting that the law enforcement folks (and I've had this confirmed by the police on my college campus) are very against having guns carried on campus, because they said you wouldn't be able to tell in a situation who was the perp, and who was a bystander. Plus, imagine a couple hundred college kids all carrying trying to figure out who the shooter is, when everyone looks like a college kid and everyone has a gun.
