  •  Nailing its the hard thing (10+ / 0-)

Ive tried that nailer thing and found it difficult

What I don't know is if an old lady can put in some bamboo flooring in the lifetime she has left.
If thats the thing, then go with the easiest to do thing you can live with

it's a finish nailer. handles 2 3/4" brads. the angle nailers are rentable though.

Yep I love my nailer especially I've never been able to use a hammer creditably.

While I'd like to have bamboo floors, the slide-and-click laminate I know we can do. I don't know whether bamboo floors are advisable as a first flooring project. The flooring guy at Home Depot sez yes.

I'm with you on the knees issue. The vacuuming issue though is the overriding motivator, though. ha!

      •  I vote click laminate over the plastic "float" pad (7+ / 0-)

That is the easiest to put in, IMO - "just" clear and prep floor - mostly take care of any big gouges, dips, or unevenness beyond an acceptable limit which is spelled out in the instructions. Next, lay down the foam pad over the entire floor, then make sure you've got your chalk lines snapped in the right spots so your strips go in straight, and simply begin laying the flooring by snapping in and down - you will need to cut strips and notches to fit next to walls, doorways, etc, - and of course trim the rooms out w/baseboard, but it doesn't get any easier than that, IMO.

Plus, most new factory finishes have additives in them to make them HARD and resistant to scratches and wear, and if a board does get blasted down the road, repairs are so much easier than glued or (shudder) nailed. Plus, nailed flooring is prone to squeaks and such later on - as in our place. Flooring strips over foam are pretty quiet overall - but you probably wouldn't want to put a piano on one without BIG disks under the wheels to spread the weight.
