  •  The political expedience of this all (12+ / 0-)

sickens me. Thank you. I think it's a necessary political conversation without a doubt. I think it requires strong, strong analysis. But it does not require people playing games with political expediency in the light of such a tragedy whatsoever.

    Regardless of their personal views.

    The bottom line?

A mentally ill man killed his own mother with her guns before killing school children and teachers and then turning the gun on himself.

If this isn't about the grieving of these families, we are truly a cold-hearted and narcissistic bunch of human beings.

So much suffering. Many of the kids who lived will now face PTSD and other mental problems from what we know about mass murders. Many of these families will similarly struggle.

    •  I agree and given that emotions are (3+ / 0-)

running sky high and the fact that the discussion on the matter of guns is hardly a rational one without the tragedy, nothing will get done anyway.

One can't form effective strategies in anger or in grieve.

the fall out will be massive.  Western Connecticut of course will be hit hard -- but how many parents tonight will be consoling children?  The ever present teevee is the boogey man.

Children across the country will feel this horror because the big screen will make them feel the horror.  What a effed up world we have allowed to exist for kids today.  Video is reality and reality is on video.

Thanks, mo for your consistent humanity.

      •  Thank you for yours (5+ / 0-)

You know, this hit me particularly hard. One of my relatives was probably involved with that school for a long time. I've spent a lot of time in Fairfield County myself. I am a mother, an aunt, and a teacher on top of that.

So it really gives me more empathy than I can explain.

I know what you mean about video being reality and reality being video. That's terrible. The whole thing, the way it's being talked about like it's a game for platforms and positions without serious inquiry, and then there are kids who will live with this forever, and parents who will forever live without their kids. I cannot fathom that. One would die of grief on the spot.
