making guns easier to own, easier to carry in public—eight states now even allow them in bars—and harder for the government to track

the quoted MoJo article points to "NRA and its allies".  Who are these allies?  Is ALEC (or similar) writing these laws?

may I ask you to revisit this and post an explanation? (there, not here)
      I'm honestly curious.

      them in schools and daycare.

I hope that the quality of debate will improve,
but I fear we will remain Democrats.

any privately owned facility at all, can opt out.
See, that's the problem with gun control advocates too often.
They don't inform themselves completely and statements like that result.
Brainwrap ignored about two thirds of the legislation - that and the way it centralized CCW permit databases under the control of the State Police.

        •  Why would they choose to opt out? (2+ / 0-)

Might that be because it is a bad idea?

If so, then why are we allowing it at all?

The point is that you were relaying inexact information omitting a vital detail. A few places here in Vermont do as much as well. The local hospital as well as the local mental health services agency are two places you'll find "No Guns" signs.

here in Vermont OPT OUT, that is, not relay inexact information.
(Although I can think of one instance in which the local mental health office did exactly that.........)
