  •  We have allowed our voices to be silenced (10+ / 0-)

We have allowed our chosen representatives to walk in those halls of power and not do our bidding. They do the bidding of some of us, true, but not the majority of us. Even the majority of NRA members would like to see some controls on who gets guns.

But more than that, conversations, national conversations have not taken place in arenas that include the majority of us. We have not, for example, really been able to weigh in on the injustices of our time. We are excluded from learning the real extent of our country's involvement in torture - it is classified.

We are excluded from debating whether to tax or cut spending except in that we are preached at by all and sundry punditocracy. We are viewed as moochers by the monies folks who want to influence policy. We are viewed as expendable by those same people.

We just had a national election and amongst those topics NOT DISCUSSED AT ALL were global warming, gun control and wars. Can you imagine what other country would go through a major election and NOT SAY WORD ONE about such important topics?

American Television is a vast sea of stupid. -xxdr zombiexx

    •  IT's Not a Country, It's the Location of Markets, (7+ / 0-)

and our government more represents markets than the country. The markets are keening interested in ignoring global warming, gun control and wars.

It took half a century to turn a nation into a region but we've been working at it painstakingly since the first orbit around the Moon.

We are called to speak for the weak, for the voiceless, for victims of our nation and for those it calls enemy.... --ML King "Beyond Vietnam"
