  •  What about armed teachers in Israel? (0+ / 0-)

One meme that is all over Facebook today is about Israeli schools being safe because the teachers are required to be armed. The picture that goes with it is of a young woman in a suit with a machine gun.

Does anybody here know the true story on that one?

As a general rule, this is not true.  None of the teachers in a school will have guns, though there may be security guards, separate from the teachers.  The pictures that have been floating around with this meme have been a bit misleading- they're all of school groups out on trips/tours, and trips and tours are required to have someone armed there, though not necessarily the teacher (could be a nurse, medic, etc).  You'll see the same thing if you do a group tour in Israel- either the guide will be armed or you'll have an armed medic on the trip.  But those are general requirements for group excursions, and not for actually being in school.
