With all the regulations states have placed on clinics that make it impossible to offer the services, it has become difficult, if not impossible, for women to obtain abortions today.

How about the same regulations on gun providers.  Start imposing impossible to follow regulations that would force them to shut down

Why would we want to imitate one of the least honest and most despicable tactics of the RWNJ types?

Outlawing civilian possession of firearms is a perfectly valid position to take (not one I happen to agree with, but still perfectly valid).  And it might well be within reach, if not now, soon. The current interpretation of the second amendment is a fragile thing that is unlikely to survive the current set of Supreme Court justices.

Your proposed tactic also plays into the hands of the less rational "gun rights" types who claim that any regulation of firearms is the prelude to the UN-blue-helmets-in-black-helicopters-coming-for-your-guns. It makes things a lot harder for those who truly do wish to regulate who may own particular types of firearms, without banning them all for everyone.

If you want to propose a gun ban, just do it. I don't see the advantage of proposing one and pretending it's something else.
