that no private person should be allowed to own except under very limited circumstances, e.g. owning a gun range or museum or working in private security, and you're fully and regularly trained and licensed. Otherwise, you shouldn't be allowed to buy, acquire or own them and if you do and are found out, they will be confiscated and you're going to jail or have to pay a heavy fine--and if they're used to commit a crime, you're going to jail for a long time.

NO ONE else needs to possess an assault rifle or cop-killer bullet and such. Period. I'm not expert on this field but surely those who are can figure out which are which, and regulate them accordingly.

I realize that the epidemic of gun violence and massacres is about much more than just guns and our easy access to them, but clearly, our easy access to them is a big part of it. Let's address all the root causes. Including this one.

if not law enforcement or military, nothing legal accept handguns with no excess ammunition and rifles for hunters, actual rifles, not assault weapons disguised as hunting rifles. no exceptions.

purchase, possession or use of assault weapons and extended magazines has to be illegal and with heavy penalties.

mittens=edsel. no matter how much money is spent to promote it, if the product sucks, no one will buy it.

This is obviously a complex issue calling for complex solutions. But clearly, we need more regulation on not just future acquisition but present possession of certain kinds of firearms and ammo. There's a reason we can't acquire nuclear weapons aside from the cost and complexity issue.
