I was told yesterday by a commenter that my life is worth less than that of any single person who was killed yesterday because I believe it is valuable enough to protect in my home.

I saw that comment by Winston Smith in weatherdude's diary. When I saw it, it had several uprates and not a single HR. Although it now has 52 HRs, it also has 32 uprates - a comment saying that the commenter wants to shoot other Kossacks for what they believe.

I've been called paranoid and delusional for wanting to defend myself against getting raped and beaten in my own home again and accused of putting up a straw man. When it's already happened to someone once, that person is not putting up a straw man.

I'm a longtime member of this community and have never posted a TTFN, let alone a GBCW. I am very, very strongly considering a TTFN, although I will still rec Native American Netroots diaries and fulfill jam orders. I have posted the first diary of a planned series that will give people an inside look at the process of replacing a state senator in WA. This is not something another Kossack can post, not from the viewpoint of one of the 22 people who will choose the top three candidates for appointment from which the appointee must, by law, be chosen. But maybe what I need to do is write the rest as they happen and post them when I eventually come back.

I generally stay away from RKBA diaries and discussions. But there is an ugly current here and I don't want to associate with a site or a community that demonizes progressives for their belief in support of something they deem a civil liberty. I definitely don't want to associate with a site where even front-pagers engage in the demonizing of particular brands of guns and everyone who owns one. I don't want to stick around when I'm told my life is worth less than another human being's. Aren't all the lives of those human beings born into this world worth the same - or, at least, isn't the ideal that they should all be deemed worthy?

When people feel comfortable discussing how they want to kill other people for their beliefs, there's something wrong here. When people feel it's a great idea to have the military conduct a house to house search for something and taking it by force if it's found, and others agree, I need to get some time away from those people. When front pagers put an option in a poll to repeal civil liberties of people they disagree with, this is not a place I want to be.

So jam orders aside, I think I'm stepping away for some time. I can't say how long. This is by no means a GBCW, but I think I'm following you out the door for a while, kalmoth. I need some fresh air.

Why are war casualty counts "American troops" and "others" but never "human beings"?

      Even if just 'quiet'.

I won't address the bulk of your comment (or your TTFN diary, which is up now), but I have to agree that targeting specific types of guns is largely symbolic, given that they are involved with very few of the gun fatalities in the US each year.  If that's what comes out of this killing again in terms of gun control, we'll do what we did for years - prevent the few high profile mass killings each year, and ignore the tens of thousands of one killing at a time deaths.

And I'm sad to lose your voice, but I'll take your point of view on in-home self-defense forward into discussions; it's an important one to be represented.
