I want to make a confession to you, I hope you will take this in the whole hearted manner I'm giving it to you.

Years ago in my young hippie life I was as liberal as I am today but also much less experienced. It became a liberal cause to be for strict gun control and I jumped in with both feet. Hell, I didn't have a gun. Why should anyone have one? I was arrogant and ignorant and mouthy in my approach.

I had a friend who used to fight with me about the issue. She was a passionate defender of the 2nd, really just as strong for it as I was against it. Ultimately she told me that while in an apt. building she was raped in the laundry room. Her gun was the only thing that made her feel like she could walk into an unoccupied room or drive by herself at night.

Here's the confession. I was too stupid to quit with my anti gun stuff. I was so sure I was right that I was totally an ass. It is something I am ashamed of to this day, 30 or so years later.

But, her story and other things led down a path that eventually made me understand how wrong I was. I began to think of all the millions who do have guns and never use them for ill. The people you don't read about because nothing happens and they don't make the news. Hunters, sport shooters, and people like you and my friend.

I am RKBA. I believe in protecting the 2nd. and the 1st, 3rd, 4th, (what's left of it) and all of the rights we were given. Just because I don't need or use a gun does not mean I can't see that some do.

Don't leave Kitsap. I'm not leaving even tho I was told to go away on Friday and told I was responsible for the horrible thing that happened, all those babies killed. I intend to fight for this right and talk to those people who are willing to talk to me about it. I will not let another right go without a fight.

I told myself I was doing it in part for my friend I was so insensitive with, now I'm doing it for you. hu

coming into my duplex years ago and as someone who slept with a loaded shotgun (couldn't miss with that) by my bed until i moved, i refuse to tell people they are wrong for owning a gun.

i just believe there needs to be tighter restrictions on purchasing them.  background checks, time limits, etc., no mail order - all these "restrictions" are reasonable, imho, and - at one time, the nra supported them.

banning assault weapons or weapons that are used by military and law enforcement for private use also is not unreasonable in my view.

we need a rational dialogue on this - hell, we need RATIONAL dialogue on MANY issues around here.

when the opinions rather than the solutions to a problem are more important, that is where the problem occurs.
