  •  I believe this is a DEMOCRATIC forum (6+ / 0-)

not something called a "progressive" forum. Whatever you deem a progressive is, seems to  be very cult like, with its purist agenda.
Currently, the numbers appear to indicate that Democratic firearms owners could be as high as 40%. They run the gamut from plinkers to soldier. Apparently, unless they fit into your restricted tent of cult followers they need not participate here at Daily Kos. I am going to presume you will be proven wrong.

    •  Depending on the question being asked (7+ / 0-)

upwards of 80% of Americans support sensible restrictions on gun ownership.

Sixty-eight percent of newly blue voters in 2008 in the swing states of CO, FL, IN, IA, NV, NM, NC, OH, and VA support a ban on assault weapons -- like the Bushmaster used in Friday's massacre.

Go to the link.  Lots more data there to show your analysis of American public opinion is sorely lacking.

No one in the RKBA promotes completely unregulated firearms ownership or use. To say otherwise is a, dare I say, a lie.
Most of the groups diaries have been to show that many attempts at gun control legislation have either weak arguments, or ignorance of the machines themselves. And especially emotional proposals are especially specious. Some in the group have proposed strengthening current laws, eg. NICS compliance, better Mental Health access, end the drug war, etc. No need to list all of them, read the diaries. The broad brush you paint with is just wrong.
Win your arguments with logic, not emotion.

        •  You start with a fallacy (12+ / 0-)

that the Constitution itself guarantees an individual right to keep and bear arms.

          It's in your name.

I know the Supreme Court in Heller and McDonald have endorsed that position.  I also know those decisions radically changed a century of jurisprudence, and they only came about after a long period of intense lobbying by an extremist right-wing organization, the NRA.

Your group believes in concealed carry, and its members openly promote mass ownership of guns as a means of counteracting gun violence in the United States.

Those are exactly the positions that brought us to where we are today -- with school children gunned down in their classrooms by a legally obtained assault rifle.

Your group, like the NRA, stands in the way of sensible measures to restrict gun ownership in the United States, but only through restricting guns -- gun control -- can we revert the gun-mad culture that leads to massacres like Sandy Hook, like Clackamas, like Oak Creek, like Aurora, like...

Get out of the way.  We need gun control now.

Go for it. Flail about. Repeat the same old lines. Ignore anything that doesn't jibe with your perception. Dig the hole as deep as you want.
Nobody stops you from proposing anything. Nobody stops you from writing a repeal of the Second Amendment and working off your butt to get it passed. Nobody is stopping you from writing, phone calling, protesting outside of gun stores. Apparently, working for your goals is harder than typewriting on a blog. Good luck with all of it.

      •  Doesn't something like 76% of NRA members (5+ / 0-)

support some form of sensible regulation?

It seems to me that the RKBA group represents the leadership of the NRA rather than the majority of gun owners.

Others have simply gotten old. I prefer to think I've been tempered by time.
