  •  Every time I walk into Costco or any other (11+ / 0-)

heavily trafficked store or area, I immediately scan for all our best exits, hiding places and sheltered spots.  I always have the kids in the cart so I can make the fastest getaway possible and I'm always attentive for suspicious looking people who might be perpetrators.

I'm on the emergency planning committee at school.  We have contingency plans, but you had better believe we're going to revisit them in the coming weeks.

This is what it has come to now.  Rather than feeling safe in society with my two precious little girls, I feel like the target.  I refuse, however, to make it change our practices.  Just changes my attention in every moment from that of enjoyment to that of alertness.

20 innocent children were slaughtered. The gun lobby and NRA bear responsibility and it is time to fight back!
